Composites

Orlimex CZ s.r.o. was the first one in Czech Republic who received construction and technical certificate for “Basalt Composite Materials”! Now, Orlimex UK ltd. is expanding its product portfolio as well!

The company Orlimex UK ltd has expanded its business activity and tapped the area of constructions with its new product – basalt composite materials – as a substitute to traditional steel reinforcement. Now we are offering to our business partners two types of composite materials. Those two being materials from basalt fibre (internationally marked BFRP) and from glass-fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP). Both are adequate substitute to steel reinforcement in concrete constructions. ORLIMEX CZ, s.r.o. is the sole representative of our Russian partner GALEN (for CZ, SK and PL; Orlimex UK is then representative for UK market), who is the world leading producer of composite materials and ranks among one of the first producers of basalt composite materials and glass-fibre reinforced plastic in Russia as well as in western Europe.

BASALT

  • volcanic rock and forms about 30% of Earth’s crust,
  • extremely durable and hard material of a fine-grained structure,
  • resistant to abrasion and chemicals.

Thanks to those attributes basalt is used for production of modern composite materials.

Main benefits of Basalt:

  • high tensile strength – basalt fibre strength is comparable to strength of carbon fibre (basalt is 3x stronger than steel, yet 4x lighter)
  • thermal conductivity – basalt enjoys low thermal conductivity (100x lower than steel), its usage allows to increase thermal insulation efficiency of walls by up to 35%
  • fire resistance – basalt resists high temperatures, in long term up to 700 ºC and in short term up to 1000 ºC (glass fibre composite looses its strength in temperatures above 300 ºC) – actual limit of fire resistance is at least 151 min
  • anticorrosive
  • electrical resistance
  • Resistant to alkaline and chemical substances
  • Cohesiveness with concrete – rods covered with silica sand

BASALT and composite

Composite is every material made from at least two main components significantly differing by their physical properties. The material is made from fibre reinforcement and composite binder. The most common composite is made from organic polymer resin and basalt or fibreglass.

PULTRUSION – Production technology

Pultrusion is a “process of continuous reinforcement production of different types, shapes and lengths. The input material is a mixture of liquid resins and fibre reinforcements. The process includes drawing the material through heated steel form. Most of the times, the product is sanded with quartz sand due to good cohesion with concrete and then cut to required length.

ORLITECH MESH

In cooperation with company GALEN, we introduce our new product and best substitute to steel mesh for concrete reinforcement. Composite mesh consists of basalt rods Composite bars (Ø 2,2 a 3 mm), the rods are located in mutually perpendicular directions connected in node by special mass. Composite Mesh is supplied in sheets or rolled up, which accelerates the laying process and overall construction.

Possible application of ORLITECH MESH:

A – Civil engineering:

  • Strengthening of concrete structures
  • Reinforcement of concrete wall and sandwich panels (boards)
  • Reinforcement of concrete floors, brick and stone walls of buildings
  • Strengthening and mainly relieving monoliths and structural elements

B – Industrial construction:

  • Reinforcement of industrial floors
  • Strengthening of water works and coastal structures
  • Reinforcement of gypsum, anhydrite floors and products

C – Road construction:

  • Reinforcement of road plates, motorways and airport areas
  • Reinforcement of bridges and bridge structures
  • Strengthening road and railway slopes
  • Fencing and non-corrosion barriers

Composite mesh also proved well while used in civil construction, sewage treatment plants, aggressive and humid environments, agriculture and chemically demanding operations.

ORLITECH BAR – reinforce basalt fibre bars

In cooperation with company GALEN, we introduce ORLITECH BAR as a new product and best substitute to steel mesh for concrete reinforcement.

Composite Bars armature is a highly rigid and durable basalt fibre (rod) with a diameter of 2.5 – 32 mm. We supply this reinforcement as bars with length from 2 to 12 m. The reinforcement with a diameter of 4 – 10 mm is also supplied in coils of 50-100 m, which has the advantage over steel rods in faster installation and less connections. We offer the bars in two variations, with and without surface finish, where the rods are covered with siliceous sand prior to stretching in the baking mold. That gives much better properties while bonding with concrete.

With our Composite Bars, you can increase lifetime not only of concrete but even structural constructions. Composite Bars have high corrosion resistance in acidic, alkaline and other corrosive environments.

▪High tensile strength (1200 MPa)

▪Low density (2,0g/cm3)

▪Low thermal conductivity (0,46W/m2)

▪Ultimate environmental and fire safety

Composite Bars reinforcement has undergone and passed physical and mechanical tests at various universities around the world.

Possible application of Composite Bars:

A – Civil engineering:

  • Strengthening of concrete structures
  • Reinforcement of foundation plates
  • Repair and reinforcement of concrete floors, brick and stone walls of buildings
  • Strengthening and mainly relieving monoliths and structural elements

B – Construction and Agriculture:

  • Manufacturing of concrete barriers and filigree (thin-walled elements)
  • Strengthening concrete and anhydrite floors not only in industrial buildings
  • Reinforcement of concrete tanks, sewerage shafts and covers
  • Reconstruction and rehabilitation of buildings and historical buildings
  • Strengthening of water works and coastal structures
  • Construction of silage pits, gutter reinforcement and troughs

C – Road and railway engineering:

  • Reinforcement of road plates, motorways and airport areas
  • Relief and reinforcement of bridges and bridge structures
  • Reinforcement of retaining walls, roads, railways and slopes
  • As part of concrete sleepers for trains and metro
  • Fencing and non-corrosion barriers

Composite wall-plug for fixing the insulation

Composite round wall-plugs  are used to fasten outer facade insulation systems of various types to the construction. Further, to repairs and reconstructions of buildings not only in the construction industry.

Basalt Cut Fiber
